"Home-Ec 101" By Heather Solos Review

Home-Ec: 101: Skills for Everyday Living: Cook It, Clean It, Fix It, Wash It by author Heather Solos and One2OneNetwork member shares tips on everyday challenges found in the home. From cleaning tips and tricks, help with laundry stains, odors and repairs, simple handyman fixes, and difficulties in the kitchen. This is the perfect book for college grads, and the most experienced.

"Heather's advice is easy to apply and is written with the same witty style and attitude readers love on her blog, Home-Ec101.com. Charts, tips, sidebars and "Dear Home Ec 101" letters cover offer the tools you need to keep your home clean and in good repair."

I had the opportunity to read Chapter 20 of the book Meal Planning: Not Just for the Control Freaks and found the section very easy to read, with some humor added so you can relate to the book. I mostly find myself once, twice or maybe three times a week with that dreaded question "what's for dinner?" This section gives you great advice on how to plan meals, gives meal ideas, and how to avoid the rut.

I really enjoyed reading the section that was provided to me. I didn't find it boring to read at all, like some "how to" books which I normally find myself saying "huh?!" This book is on a level of understanding and a fun read.

This book can be purchased at amazon.com or barnes&noble.com . This would be a perfect gift for anyone.

Book Review Winter’s Passage by Julie Kagawa

Meghan Chase used to be an ordinary girl...until she discovered that she is really a faery princess. After escaping from the clutches of the deadly Iron fey, Meghan must follow through on her promise to return to the equally dangerous Winter Court with her forbidden love, Prince Ash. But first, Meghan has one request: that they visit Puck—Meghan's best friend and servant of her father, King Oberon—who was gravely injured defending Meghan from the Iron Fey.
Yet Meghan and Ash's detour does not go unnoticed. They have caught the attention of an ancient, powerful hunter—a foe that even Ash may not be able to defeat....
An eBook exclusive story from Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series.

I was given the opportunity to review just 4 chapters of this ebook and it had me hooked, wish I had a Kindle or something else to finish. This book is about forbidden love between a half human, half Summer princess and a prince from the Winter Court. Prince Ash must return Meghan to the Winter Court Queen, her father's enemies, after making a bargain with the Unseelie Court to help her rescue her brother. This book is geared toward Young Adult (Teen Harlequin) but I really enjoyed it.

I love the visuals of the scenery and characters you get from this book from the Trods or faery paths between the real world and Faeryland to the evil faeries sitting at the bar amongst the humans. This book had me wondering about Faeries and if they could really exist since humans in this book couldn't see the faeries around them. I know they really couldn't but it makes you think. While reading some characters reminded me of other characters from other stories. The faery cat Grimlikin, he reminded me of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, how secretive and sly he is. Also the Elder Dryad, a grandmotherly fey who was a tree reminded me of Grandmother Willow in Pocahontas. This book takes you to places with wonderful scenery and the action makes it a "can't put it down till I finish" book. I just hope the "love" between Prince Ash and Meghan can withstand all the hurdles they encounter.

About the Author:
Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. But
nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the
age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which
she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous
insects, colonies of house geckos and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t
getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish and the
odd eel.
To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her
reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So
she turned to her other passion: training animals. She
worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic
Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped
training to write full-time.
Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the
frequency of shark attacks are at an all-time low. She lives
with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian shepherd who is too smart for his own good and the latest
addition, a hyperactive papillon.
